Losing the Baby Fat - What to Do Before, During & After Pregnancy

by Teresa Brown

Realistically, due to our differences there is no magic “pill” to losing the baby fat. Life is what you make it so make the decision to start and commit to getting back in shape by living a healthy lifestyle. Here are some simple steps to help you on your way to a higher quality of life.

It’s nothing new for new moms to see how incredibly fast the Celeb mums were able to lose their baby fat. But for most moms having a baby takes a toll on them emotionally and physically. Paparazzi pictures of Jessica Alba in skinny jeans within a few weeks of her baby’s birth can persuade most women to console themselves with junk food.

So, what is the fastest way to lose the baby fat without the advantage of having your own Momtourage like the Celebs? What may work for your friend or sister may not work for you. The trick is to find and use what works for you and make it a part of your lifestyle.

1. Exercise During and After Your Pregnancy

It’s very important to check with your practitioner before starting any exercise program. There are many fun and interesting pregnancy yoga or calisthenics classes. Any water workout can get and keep you fit for your labor and delivery and post-partum recovery. Daily exercise can make all the difference in losing the baby fat as quickly as two to six months based on the person.

2. Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding hastens a nursing mother’s body in losing the baby fat. Unfortunately, not all nursing moms experience this benefit and not all moms breastfeed. The essential thing is to maintain a well-balanced diet and an exercise program and you will lose the pregnancy weight in due time and keep it off.

3. Montior your Pregnancy Weight

As tempting as it may seem, pregnancy is not an excuse to eat anything and everything you desire. Even though some women only gain “baby weight” and others despite eating healthy gain more than baby weight, eating healthy is the right thing to do. The goal is to stay within your targeted pregnancy weight as dictated by your doctor. Watching what you eat during your pregnancy will keep the excess pounds from sabotaging your ability to lose your baby fat after giving birth.

4. Living Healthy

If you can live healthy for your baby, you can lose the baby fat for yourself by choosing to continue living healthy. This means eating right and staying active. If you are or have been inactive or out of shape before and after giving birth, always begin an exercise program with your doctor and your body’s approval and take it easy. Eventually you will be able to build up your stamina to complete a regular exercise routine that will help you to return to your pre-baby figure in no time. Sticking to a healthy lifestyle will ensure that the weight comes off and stays off.

Being pregnant is a blessing in so many ways. Why let the opportunity to start living a healthy lifestyle pass you by? Making nutritious food choices and engaging in some form of physical activity will make your body’s efforts to losing the baby fat happen as fast and get you back to feeling like yourself again.
